Panel boards are found almost in every electrical distribution system in residential, commercial, and industrial applications.  They are categorized as either power or lighting and appliance panel boards and then further as either main breaker or lug type distribution boards.  The type of panel board switch needed for each electrical protection job will depend upon the type of board needing protection and the current requirements of the power distribution system.

Overload Relays provide motor over current protection. Overload relays include fixed bimetallic, interchangeable heater bimetallic, and electronic.

It is a Motor Starter that has some sort of motor protection within its circuitry, i.e. fuses, or circuit breakers. They typically contain Fuses, or Circuit Breakers, contactors, motor protection (in the form of Overload Heater-similar to circuit breakers, but may specifically for devices that draw a lot of current for a brief period).

Motor starters provide motor protection and disconnect method in a fraction of the space required for traditional components.

Safety interlock switches respond when a mechanical guard opens. They feature “positive opening” contacts for high reliability and coded actuators to discourage tampering or defeat.

Disconnect switches are used anywhere a local disconnect is required or desired. Often they are used where the motor is not visible from the motor controller, or MCC. These can be found in all locations in a water wastewater facility including screw pumps, mixers, blowers, oxidation ditch rotors, headworks, and biosolids to name a few. General duty is used where economy is a prime consideration, and Heavy duty is used where maximum performance and continuity of service are of prime consideration.

Motors convert electricity into mechanical power. Motors provide motion. Whether rotating or linear, motors enable us to move people and machines. Motor Control is therefore the devices that control the rate at which the energy is applied, starting, stopping, varying speed, torque, or current.

Meter sockets can be installed with light load current requirements of 100 amps, up to the demanding requirements of the largest homes requiring single 320 amp meter sockets or multiple meter sockets feeding multiple service panels.
